About this trip

The Derawan Islands in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, are a marine paradise in the Celebes Sea. The trip starts from Tanjung Batu with a speedboat ride of about two hours to Derawan Island. In Derawan you can swim with green turtles that often come up near the jetty. Next, Kakaban Lake, a brackish lake home to millions of stingless jellyfish, offers a snorkelling experience found in very few places in the world. Maratua Island has an atoll with a clear blue lagoon, Sangalaki Island is known for its manta rays, and Kaniungan Island feels peacefully quiet on a white sand shore.
