Mi Belitung
Yellow noodles in a thick shrimp-based broth, topped with potato, bean sprouts, and emping crackers. Sweet and savoury, and a favourite breakfast for Belitung locals.
Giant Granite and Glass-Clear Seas
Belitung, in the Bangka Belitung Islands, has beaches unlike most tropical ones: large round granite boulders scattered across the sand and in the shallows, some as tall as a house. At Tanjung Tinggi, these rocks form crevices and natural pools where visitors play in the water.
The island is widely known through the novel and film Laskar Pelangi, set in Belitung. Offshore, the Lengkuas Island Lighthouse, built during the Dutch colonial era, stands on a small granite island. Belitung was also recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2021, partly for its geological history and tin-mining heritage.
Kaolin Lake, a former mine now filled with blue-green water, shows another side of an island that was once a centre of mining. Food such as Belitung noodles and gangan, a yellow-broth fish soup, rounds out the trip.

A fresh fish dish in yellow broth with turmeric and a sour note. Different from coconut-milk gulai because the broth is light.
